Happy Spring

It's almost here, although in Edmonton, we are having more snow again today.

From my daughter's collection. I love the colours - absolutely yummy!

Everyday Matters part two

I also did this drawing, using a different pen. I used a Faber-Castell PITT artist pen for the drawing, instead of the Micron I usually use. I am not sure if I like the effect or not...

Everyday Matters Challenge

The Challenge was to draw a container from the kitchen. I see this one every morning. My Canadian friends will understand the significance of it being Tim Hortons coffee...a real Canadian thing!

Kiddle

For the Everyday Matters Challenge...
The theme is toyland, and I could have drawn one of my teddy bears. But I thought that I would draw one of my Kiddles. I have had these for as long as I can remember. My Kiddles used to be on my dresser when I was a little girl. I have six of the Kola Kiddles: Laffy Lemon, Kleo Kola, Shirley Strawberry, Luscious Lime, Greta Grape and Olivia Orange. I think they are STILL pretty cool!

Fra-Gee-Lay

Okay, so this lamp was what first came to my mind when I saw that the Illustration Friday theme was "Fragile"...The movie "A Christmas Story" is always a part of our family traditions over the holidays, and I can't help but laugh each time the father unpacks his major award - "FRA-GEE-LAY...it must be Italian!"

I think I captured the "tacky element" with my drawing of the leg lamp. For a more tasteful rendering of this week's theme, I have posted another drawing below.

RCMP Memorial

RCMP2, originally uploaded by sapphire252.

Today at the University of Alberta, a memorial was held to remember RCMP Constables Peter Schiemann, Leo Johnston, Anthony Gordon and Brock Myrol.

The following words were taken from Prime Minister Paul Martin's remarks at the service:
"To wear the uniform of the RCMP is to dedicate oneself to feats of courage and to nobility of purpose. It is to carry one of Canada's greatest traditions into a future of unyielding change. These four young men, alive in the early summer of life, rest now in the serenity of God's embrace. They are mourned by neighbours, they are mourned by their nation. Their memory will be eternal. And so too will our gratitude."

ANCIENT

tut, originally uploaded by sapphire252.

For Illustration Friday's weekly topic: ANCIENT. The first thing that came to my mind was King Tutankhamun's famous mask. I tried to use some shading to give the mask some dimension. I was very pleased with the end result!

Everyday Matters Bed Challenge

fancybed, originally uploaded by sapphire252.

Okay, so this is not my bed. We are in the middle of redecorating, so my bed is basically a kingsize grey square, and that is it. So, I saw this bed in a decorator magazine, and thought I would draw it. It looks very cozy, doesn't it?

Silver Birch

For the Everyday Matters Challenge...This is a tea cup that belonged to my dear Grandma Vincent. When I was a little girl, I would have tea with my grandmother using her Silver Birch tea set. After Grandma passed away, I was given a few pieces of her china, including this tea cup. Whenever I am feeling a little low, I pour myself some tea in this cup, and it always makes me feel better!
